This is the class that I wish I would have had when starting out, and that would have really speeded up the process of learning how to edit. Learning editing in this way was pretty inefficient, but it was also quite frustrating because at the time, I was preparing for my final year medical exams at Cambridge University while trying to churn out YouTube videos every week.

When I was first learning how to edit, I taught myself using a combination of trial and error and a ton of YouTube tutorials. I've been making videos using Final Cut for the last two years. I'm a doctor working in Cambridge, and on the side, I make YouTube videos about medicine, tech, and productivity. If you're not keen to have your face on camera, that's okay - feel free to download the raw footage from my August 2019 Favourites video, and you can use that to edit along in Final Cut. Raw Footage from my Monthly Favourites video The video quality can always be improved later :) We're not interested in video quality here, we're interested in learning how to edit in Final Cut Pro X, and how to make the edit snappy and interesting. Just turn your phone landscape, and using the default camera app, film a selfie-video of yourself talking about your Monthly Favourite(s). To keep things simple, if you don't have a camera setup or don't have any experience in filming yourself, please use your phone. This class focuses on editing, and so we've skipped past the filming stage.

If you're a complete beginner to Final Cut Pro, we'll ease you in with the basic fundamentals before getting fancy with transitions and animations.

Coats of Polish - We'll add background music to sound more pro, sound effects to our titles and transitions, vocal effects to our audio track (compression and EQ) and colour grading to give our edit the look and feel we crave.

B-Roll Shenanigans - With our A-cut sorted, we'll make our edit more interesting by adding B-roll - second camera clips, titles, transitions, lower thirds, images, screen recordings and even handwritten animations.

And we'll learn a tonne of keyboard shortcuts on the way to make the process as efficient as possible. We'll learn how use In and Out points effectively, how to append footage to our timeline and how to cut out all the inevitable mistakes and pauses to form a sharp, snappy edit.

A-Cut Assembly - We'll create our project, import our footage, and get to assembling the A-cut.
